You're right to point out this isn't rocket science. If you pay, and it's obvious you've paid, for any sort of coverage, whether it's an advertorial or one of those awful glossy 'specials' that PR Wank does, where WOW you get a full page profile on yourself and your company but DOH there is a full page add on the opposite page. To me that's advertorial.

Someone said to me once there is no such thing as an influential blogger, because as soon as they become influential, they are journalists. There's something in that. Once money is changing hands, you've crossed over to the dark side. Or is that the light side?

Quite agree Matt. As with many things in the world of Web 2.0, things haven't changed very much.

For instance, I've never recommended that a client runs an advertorial. If you want to advertise, advertise. If you want some credible editorial, then come up with a story strong enough to interest a journalist.

And to Lolly's point, review programmes have been run since...well, since products were first produced. There's nothing wrong with putting kit in the hands of journalists and bloggers, if there's no expectation other than a frank and honest view.

I think it's great that this debate has been brought into the open, even if the question's phrasing could have been handled a little better.

Where Lolly's original post that kick started this is spot on, is where she says: "I am very much pro-incentivising bloggers for their time but favour product-based incentives, thus giving bloggers the opportunity to experience the brand/product in question first-hand."

How otherwise can a blogger retain their credibility? If an agency wants to advertise on a blog, why not by a banner ad and stay well clear of this potential minefield?

Dawn - you shouldn't worry about it. Like all things that blokes talk about, it is of no consequence whatsoever.

Duncan - I think Brawn has a brilliant future. In fact, there's a large part of me that simply says 'go where Ross Brawn is'. The man's a genius and has won wherever he's been.

I agree to a certain extent, but dont forget that Brawn started the season with a £100m parachute payment from Honda, so they had some pennies. Also Brawn stopped developing the '09 car in June, so in theory the '10 car should be strong.

The news this morning that Merc are taking a 75% share and leaving McLaren (just supplying engines) sounds to me that Brawn has a pretty good future and maybe this is where Button should stay.

I think he will loose the political battle with Hamilton, especially without Mercedes to keep him in line. Yiou are spot on though, those two together will hand the title to Vettel.

Be interesting to see what happens.

Hmmm... think I understood most of that. I can now at least fake a passing knowledge of F1 down the pub which is rather more than I could before.

Just don't make me watch it!

Cant believe my eyes when I read this clause,( leave it back empty)

Its your petrol to dispose off give it to charity, they could open a collection service for unused fuel at Girona and elsewhere.

first thing I am going to do is report it to the EU and see what they have to say,

Last time I am going to rent Hertz, they are partners with RyanAir. and these are the people who want the government travel Tax in Ireland done away with, I suppose so they can grab it for themselves and their partners

You don't expect it From Hertz, perhaps their Directors will see the Light, or the red on their balance sheet if they don't

RIP OFF RIP OFF RIP OFF
